- Drain old oil
- Refill with fresh oil (SAE 30 for most mowers, or whatever the manufacturer recommends)

- Remove inspect and clean the old spark plug
- Gap and install a new one if needed
- Scope the cylinder looking for problems
🌬️3. Replace or Clean the Air Filter
- Foam filters: clean and re-oil or replace
- Paper filters: replace if dirty or clogged
🛠️4. Sharpen and Balance the Blade
- Remove the blade
- Sharpen both edges evenly
- Balance to reduce vibration (a balanced blade extends mower life)
🧽5. Clean the Deck
- Scrape off built-up grass and debris under the deck
- Helps prevent rust and improves airflow
⛽6. Inspect the Fuel System
- Drain old gas if mower sat unused for months
- Clean or replace the fuel filter (if equipped)
- Add fuel stabilizer if storing
🌀7. Check and Clean the Carburetor
- Inspect carb for debris and spray with carb cleaner if needed
⚙️8. Inspect Belts, Cables, and Tires
- Inspect belts
- Lubricate cables and moving parts
- Check tire pressure (on riding mowers or zero-turns)
